Buffer Overflow in Ebola Authentication Mechanism

A buffer overflow condition is present in the authentication mechanism implemented in Ebola. The vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by sending a specially crafted string to the application.

Mitigation:

Apply the latest security patches for Ebola. Avoid using sprintf() function for constructing error messages.

Exploit-DB raw data:

// source: https://www.securityfocus.com/bid/9156/info

It has been reported that a buffer overflow condition is present in the authentication mechanism implemented in Ebola. The condition is due to the use of the C library function sprintf() to construct an error message when authentication is not successful. According to the discoverer of this flaw, the vulnerability is remotely exploitable.
