EmailClub Ver1.0.0.5 for Windows98J exploit

Certain versions of EmailClub, a mail server package by Admiral Systems Inc. are vulnerable to a remote buffer overflow. This overflow is exploitable via EmailClub's POP3 server which fails to perform proper bounds checking on the 'From:' header on incoming e-mail. This overflow will lead to a complete compromise of the Windows 95/98 target machine. It may well also affect Windows NT installations in the same manner.

Alibaba 2.0 WebServer File Overwrite Xploit

There are several CGI programs that ship with the Alibaba webserver. Many of these do not do proper input handling, and therefore will allow requests for access to files outside of normal or safe webserver practice. This results in various situations where an attacker can view, overwrite, create and delete files anywhere on the server.

LPR Argument Overflow

Due to insufficient bounds checking on arguments (in this case -C) which are supplied by users, it is possible to overwrite the internal stack space of the lpr program while it is executing. This can allow an intruder to cause lpr to execute arbitrary commands by supplying a carefully designed argument to lpr. These commands will be run with the privileges of the lpr program. When lpr is installed setuid or setgid, it may allow intruders to gain those privileges.

SCO OpenServer Symlink Vulnerability

Under certain versions of SCO OpenServer, there exists a symlink vulnerability which can be exploited to overwrite any file which is group writable by the 'auth' group. The problem in particular is in the the /etc/sysadm.d/bin/userOsa executable. When given garbage output, the program will write out a debug log. However, the program does not check to see if it is overwriting a currently existing file nor wether it is following a symlink. Therefore, it is possible to overwrite files with debug data which are both in the 'auth' group and are writable by the same group. Both /etc/shadow & /etc/passwd fall into this category. If such an attack were launched against these files, the system would be rendered unusable.

Denial of Service Vulnerability in Cisco Devices Running Classic IOS

Cisco devices running classic IOS are reported prone to a denial of service vulnerability. The issue occurs when a vulnerable device receives and processes a UDP packet on UDP port 514 for syslog. This issue results in a crash or hang requiring a reboot.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 for Windows 95/Windows NT 4 Setupctl ActiveX Control Buffer Overflow

There is a buffer overflow in the setupctl ActiveX control that used to ship with some versions of Microsoft's Internet Explorer. This ActiveX control is used to link to an update site at Microsoft and is marked 'Safe for Scripting' . Arbitrary commands may be executed if the ActiveX control is run in a malicious manner.

Dynamic Linkers Profiling

A vulnerability in the dynamic linkers while profiling a shared object allows local users to create arbitrary files in the system. This exploit uses the LD_PROFILE environment variable to instruct the dynamic linker to profile the shared object defined by it. When profiling is enabled, a profiling buffer file is created and mapped. The name of the buffer file is the name of the shared object being profiled with a .profile extension. By default this buffer is placed under /var/tmp. The dynamic linker created the buffer file insecurely in the case where it runs in the context of a setuid application. It follows symbolic links while creating the file. This exploit creates a symbolic link to the .rhosts file and then runs the ps command to create the buffer file. This allows the user to create the .rhosts file and then use rsh to gain root access.

HP-UX 11.00/10.20 crontab

This exploit allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands on a vulnerable system. The vulnerability exists in the crontab command, which allows an attacker to inject malicious code into the crontab file. The malicious code is then executed when the crontab is executed. The exploit uses a symbolic link to inject the malicious code into the crontab file.

dtspaced

The CDE subprocess daemon /usr/dt/bin/dtspcd contains an insufficient check on client credentials. The CDE subprocess daemon allows cross-platform invocation of applications. In order to authenticate the remote user, the daemon generates a filename which is to be created by the client and then is verified by the daemon. When verifying the created file, the daemon uses stat() instead of lstat() and is subsequently vulnerable to a symlink attack. Further more the daemon seems to allow empty usernames and then reverts to a publicly write-able directory (/var/dt/tmp).
